Lai Wan

For most of her life, Lai Wan put her family before herself. At 65, she gave up the chance to enjoy retirement to care for her seriously ill brother and sister until their passing.

Today, Lai Wan lives alone in the home they once shared, together with the 20 cats her siblings left behind. After long days working as a cleaner in a shopping mall, she returns home to feed the cats and clean up after them. The daily routine has become physically exhausting, leaving her with little strength to keep up.

Having spent years caring for others, Lai Wan now faces the burden alone. With no immediate family to help, she continues to shoulder both the emotional loss of her loved ones and the responsibility they left behind.

Her wish is to find loving adopters or animal welfare organisations for the 20 cats, and to receive help cleaning and disinfecting her home. More than anything, she hopes to put this chapter of her life to rest and spend her later years in a clean, peaceful home filled with memories instead of burdens.

After a lifetime of caring for others, Lai Wan hopes for the chance to finally care for herself.

One Accident that Changed Everything https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/one-accident-that-changed-everything/ https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/one-accident-that-changed-everything/#respond Thu, 02 Jul 2026 02:14:33 +0000 https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/?post_type=product&p=644175 背景:
Toon Pei(50
Toon Pei

For years, Toon Pei earned a living as a lorry driver, travelling across Malaysia.
In 2020, a devastating road accident changed his life forever. At the age of 50, he was left paralysed from the waist down, replacing the open road with a wheelchair and a hospital bed.

Determined to continue his recovery, Toon Pei left his hometown and now lives in a nursing home in Klang, Selangor. While kind friends from his church have helped cover his basic nursing home expenses, he still requires ongoing acupuncture and physiotherapy, placing a heavy financial burden on his recovery.

Unmarried and without immediate family to care for him, Toon Pei relies on the support of the community as he rebuilds his life.

His wish is simple: a commode wheelchair that will make daily caregiving safer and allow him to use the toilet with greater dignity. He also hopes to move to a nursing home with a more suitable environment that supports both his rehabilitation and emotional well-being.

For Toon Pei, these are more than practical needs, they are a chance to regain comfort, dignity, and hope as he continues his journey of recovery.

16-Year-Old Who Wants to Give Free Haircuts to the Homeless. https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/16-year-old-who-wants-to-give-free-haircuts-to-the-homeless/ https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/16-year-old-who-wants-to-give-free-haircuts-to-the-homeless/#respond Wed, 01 Jul 2026 03:55:19 +0000 https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/?post_type=product&p=644002 家庭背景:

RM 16,888 has been sponsored and need cutting tools

For many children, weekends are spent with family and friends. For Latreia, they were spent serving others.

Since the age of nine, the 16-year-old has accompanied her mother in reaching out to people experiencing homelessness. While others saw strangers, she saw conversations, kindness, and humanity. These experiences shaped the way she views the world.

Having recently completed her O Level studies, Latreia now dreams of becoming a professional hairstylist, simply not to build a career, but to give back. Through years of volunteering, she has seen how a person's appearance often influences the way society treats them. She believes that a simple haircut can help restore confidence, dignity, and the courage to face another day.

With professional training and the right cutting tools, Latreia hopes to offer free haircuts to people experiencing homelessness, helping them feel seen, respected, and accepted.

For Latreia, hairstyling is more than a skill. It is her way of continuing the compassion she grew up witnessing—proving that even a simple act of care can change how someone sees themselves, and how the world sees them.

Ah Seong Sees Value Where Others See Waste. https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/ah-seongseesvaluewhereothersseewaste/ https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/ah-seongseesvaluewhereothersseewaste/#respond Wed, 01 Jul 2026 02:43:55 +0000 https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/?post_type=product&p=643988 家庭背景:

(Pest Control)

Ah Seong Sees Value Where Others See Waste.

Every day, Soon Seong 50, sets out with his 80-year-old mother to collect recyclable materials for a living. While many would expect someone of her age to rest, she continues to accompany her youngest son, and together they support one another through hard work and perseverance.

Over the years, Ah Seong has developed a keen understanding of recycling. After collecting discarded items each morning, he carefully sorts them before selling them at the recycling centre. During their free time, he and his mother also dismantle old furniture to recover raw materials for additional income. He proudly showed us the fine copper wires he had patiently extracted from old machines—proof that even the smallest efforts can create value.

Despite working tirelessly, Ah Seong, who lives with his elderly mother, one of his brothers, and a friend, continues to face modest living conditions.

His wishes are simple: two mattresses, a fan, and assistance with basic environmental clean-up around the house, including clearing the trees behind the house and clearing the overgrown grass in the front yard, cleaning the house inside and out, and carrying out basic pest control.

For Ah Seong, these are not luxuries but the foundation of a safer and more comfortable home. Having dedicated himself to giving discarded materials a second life, he now hopes for the opportunity to improve the place his family calls home.

A Second Chance for Kah Poh https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/a-second-chance-for-kah-poh/ https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/p/a-second-chance-for-kah-poh/#respond Tue, 30 Jun 2026 07:48:05 +0000 https://www.greatheartcharity.org.my/?post_type=product&p=643805 家庭背景:
Kah Poh,44

For 20 years, Kah Poh's life stood still.

After being convicted in a drug-related case, he spent two decades behind bars. By the time he was released, the world outside had changed dramatically. Everyday tasks that many take for granted had become unfamiliar to him. He had to reapply for his identity card, learn how to use a smartphone, and slowly readjust to the rhythm of daily life.

Returning home also meant returning to a quieter life with his father. Today, the 44-year-old lives with him in their ancestral home. Since his mother passed away from breast cancer in September 2020, they have relied on one another. His father continues to work in floor tile installation whenever construction projects are available, but the income is uncertain. Without projects, there is no income. Like many traditional father-and-son relationships, they are both reserved, speaking only when necessary rather than expressing their feelings openly.

Despite the challenges of starting over after 20 years, Kah Poh has taken an important first step. He has successfully secured a job and is working hard to adapt to his new work environment and rebuild his life one day at a time.

His hopes for the future are simple, yet deeply meaningful.

He hopes to find and maintain stable employment so that he can become self-reliant and shoulder the responsibility of caring for his father. He also wishes to obtain a motorcycle or car driving licence, allowing him to travel more conveniently for both work and daily life.

Most importantly, he hopes to repair the ancestral home where he and his father continue to live. Years of ageing have taken their toll on the house, and during rainy days, water leaks through the roof, making repairs and maintenance necessary. By restoring the home, he hopes to create a safer and more stable place for both of them while easing the daily inconveniences they currently face.

For Kah Poh, rebuilding life is not about erasing the past. It is about embracing the opportunity to begin again—finding dignity through honest work, caring for the only family he has left, and restoring not only the house he calls home, but also the future he is determined to build.

Nor Azua

FHW-25-36: Nor Azua’s Wish Story |

Love Beyond Blood — A Woman Who Raised Three Children as Her Own

In a low-cost flat in Kuala Lumpur, Nor Azua quietly shoulders the weight of two families. A single woman living with her elderly parents, she cares for her diabetic father who requires frequent wound treatment, and a bedridden grandfather whose condition is worsening.

But even more touching, Nor Azua has taken in her three young nieces and nephews after their mother abandoned them and their father passed away in 2022. Though not their biological mother, she is their everything.

To make ends meet, she drives for Grab daily, spending nearly all her income on her dependents. Every morning she sends the children to a daycare centre, and by evening, picks them up. Her life is filled with caregiving and sacrifice, with no room for herself.

Her wish? A basic school starter pack. School bags, uniforms, and stationery for the three children under her care. She can’t change their past, but she believes that giving them a fair start in education may help them build a better future.

FHW-25-60: D’Balkis’s Wish Story |

D’Balkis is a dedicated student pursuing a diploma in Library and Information Science at UiTM Kedah. She actively joins study groups and school activities, determined to grow beyond textbooks.

But at home, life is tough. Her father earns RM400 from grass-cutting work, and her mother, a cleaner, earns around RM1200. With four siblings and rising expenses, the family struggles to stay afloat.

While she receives some financial aid from Zakat, it barely covers her basic needs, let alone a laptop, which is essential for her course. From digital cataloging to research and assignments, a reliable computer is critical.

She currently borrows devices or travels far to access one.

Her wish: to own a laptop so she can study independently and ease her family’s burden.

Your support can help her go further and bring her one step closer to a better future.

Puan Sarahira

Puan Sarahira

FHW-25-104: Puan Sarahira’s Wish Story |

Puan Sarahira is a hardworking mother of seven. Divorced and earning around RM200 a day selling snacks and drinks, she works tirelessly to support her children, especially her daughter who is currently pursuing a diploma in business management.

The family pulls together to get by: her eldest son works at a repair shop, her eldest daughter helps at a food stall, and the youngest is still in kindergarten. But education is their hope, and most of their income goes toward school expenses.

Sarahira’s heartfelt wish is to buy her daughter a laptop, a tool essential for assignments, research, and online learning. She can’t afford one, but believes that with a little help, her daughter can go far.

“She has the potential. If someone helps her now, she can fly higher.”

A laptop isn’t just a device, it’s the bridge to a better future.
Let’s help this dedicated mother and her determined daughter keep their dreams alive.

FHW-25-50: Nur Shakinah’s Wish Story |

Nur Shakinah is a hardworking second-year statistics student at UiTM, once a top scorer in her diploma program. She dreams of becoming a data analyst  who can uplift both her family and her country.

After her father passed away seven years ago, her mother became the sole breadwinner for six children. Despite financial struggles and two siblings facing health and learning challenges, Shakinah remains determined and focused on her studies.

Her wish is simple but essential: a new laptop.
Her current one is outdated, constantly crashing, and holding her back in a field where speed and software are crucial.

A new laptop would not just help her study more efficiently, it would carry her one step closer to a better future.

Let’s help lighten her load, so she can run further, stronger, and toward the dream she’s worked so hard for.

FHW-25-126: Shirly Mah Jie Xin’s Wish Story |
My Wish: To Walk with Less Pain

At just 22, Shirly lives with her aging grandmother and younger brother in Skudai, Johor. Born with cerebral palsy, even walking from her room to the living room takes great effort.

She works at Dual Blessing to support herself and makes regular hospital visits to manage her condition, but her limited income leaves little room for extra needs.

Shirly finds peace in painting. Though her body moves slowly, her artwork is full of life, hope, and strength.

Her wish: A pair of ankle-foot orthotics (AFOs) to help her walk better, reduce pain, and move more independently.

She doesn’t ask for much, just a bit of support to live with more ease and dignity.

Your kindness could help her take each step with more comfort and confidence.
