Kampung Fauzi
Great Heart Online Helping Hand – Case 9:
Kampung Busu and Kampung Fauzi in Kampung Muadzam Shah, Pahang, have been replying on
hand-dug well as their water source. Whenever the water source is scarce, they dig the well to a deeper into the earth. There was a time where the well ran dry for 1-2 months. The water source was often contaminated by the soil, rain and other substances due to the shallow well opening.
60 years old Busu (Village head) is currently a plantation worker. He has 7 children and they seldom pay visit to the village since they have moved out for work. Fauzi (village head) earns a living by planting ubi Kayu and serai. He is now 36 years old and has a 3 years old kid. Together, Kampung Busu and Kampung Fauzi have 8 families and close to 40 villagers are facing water scarcity issues.
Their hand dug well is currently far away from their homes. Great Heart Charity Association decided to build a concrete well to each Kampung, including roof as shelter, concreted well opening structure and a water pump to channel water to the water tank next to their houses. The cost for the water well construction is RM3,650. Do refer to the sample photo for completed well.
Another side, Kampung Rendang is also facing problem with pests destroying crops. Rendang (village head) is a 57-year-old uncle who is strong and works hard on crops and plantation. The village plants crops as a living, including durian, banana, rubber trees and ubi kayu. Rendang is hardworking and smart. He knows how to sell his crops to the right person to earn more income for the family, such as to sell the bananas to fried banana stalls. He usually keeps the ubi kayu to the family. However, the pest animals have been a great disturbance to them. Most of the crops were either destroyed or eaten by wild boars or other animals in a night time. Their efforts turned into very little returns. Their remaining harvests only allow them to sustain on general household expenses. Great Heart Charity Association decided to build a solar-powered electric fencing to Kampung Rendang to protect their crops from the pest animal. The cost of the electric fencing is approximately RM6,700 and the electrical pulses serve to “shock” the animals from crossing the fence and it will cause no harm to human being.
Fund raising details as below:
- Construction of 2 sets of well, including water pump, water tank and roof:
RM3,650 x 2 = RM7,300.
- Solar-powered electric fencing: RM 6,700.
- Other construction fees and meals for indigenous group: RM1,000.
Total fund raising target: RM15,000.
