Yang Berhormat Tuan Ganavatirau A/L Veraman, Tuan Yugarajah A/L Palanisamy Yang Berhormat Tuan Ganavatirau A/L Veraman

Spreading Great Heart CNY Cheer to the Less Fortunate

KLANG, 24 February 2018: A Chinese New Year celebration was thrown by the Great Heart Charity Association (GHCA) at the Great Heart Community Centre (GHCC) recently for the less fortunate to enable the group to bask in the festive cheer along with volunteers and members of the public. Over 200 guests attended the event, including underprivileged families, residents from the Tiam Yam Toh Teng Old Folks Home and the CKS Old Folks’ Homes, children from the Padmasambhava Children Loving Association, volunteers, and the public.

Guests, both young and old, were entertained by the playful antiques of the lion dance troupes. The old folks were especially amused with the special appearance from the God of Prosperity mascot and were eagerly awaiting for the opportunity to shake hands with him. The evening also saw a special line-up of various exciting Chinese cultural performances that includes an energetic 24 Seasons Drums performance, an acrobatic Chinese Diabolo performance from a volunteer lawyer that got the guests glued to their seats, and an elegant traditional Chinese Fan Dance performance that mesmerised all the guests with their intricate dance moves. Guests were also treated to a sumptuous buffet spread and Mandarin oranges to mark the occasion.

The function also saw an overwhelming response from the public for a Chinese calligraphy contest. The contest was divided into Primary, Lower Secondary, Upper Secondary, and Open category and saw the participation from 51 competitors, all eager to show their calligraphy skills to write some Chinese Spring Couplets, also known as Fai Chun, for good luck and prosperity.

Mr Ric See, the co-founder and secretary of GHCA, commented that it is GHCA’s mission to serve and help the underprivileged groups. He further elaborated on some success stories whereby families whom had been helped by GHCA had in turn volunteered themselves to help and touch the lives of other needy families and individuals. According to Mr Ric See, GHCA is acting as a platform for the public to contribute and show their care to the society, thereby delivering the spirit of giving and building a loving community together.
