Tham Kar Ting has been an Assessment Trainee in the Great Heart Charity Association since the beginning of April 2021. She believes in giving back to the community and making a difference in the lives of poor people. Here is what she has to say all about her involvement in charity work!

The main reason I chose to involve myself in charity work is because I believe in giving back to the community. I consider myself to be fortunate as I have the basic needs I need to survive, such as food and a comfortable shelter. However, there are people out there starving and unable to support themselves due to poverty, limited physical abilities, and etc.

Therefore, as an individual who fortunately does not fall under those circumstances, I would love to help those in need, with my current abilities while I am still able to. I see charity work as an important part of my life and I would continue to give as long as it is still within my capabilities.

I have learned that providing help shouldn’t be forced throughout my journey along with the Assessment team. It is possible for some individuals who do not want any external assistance due to personal reasons. Thus, we shouldn’t force it because it has to work both ways for a truly fulfilling charitable giving.

I am still learning to connect myself with beneficiaries during assessments to gain a better understanding of them as a person. From there, we get to know them better, and not just simply provide the help they need physically, but also to help them emotionally.

Personally, I find this to be a very important process when we are trying to help people in need!
